Indications
Gabapentin is indicated for the treatment of partial seizures in adults and children over 12 years of age, as well as for the management of neuropathic pain in adults. Its use is especially relevant in patients with postherpetic neuralgia and diabetic neuropathic pain, providing relief in situations of chronic pain. It has also been used as adjunctive therapy in anxiety disorders, although this indication is not officially approved. It is important that treatment with Gabapentin be supervised by a physician, who will determine the dose and duration of treatment according to the specific needs of the patient.
Composition
Each 400 mg Gabapentin capsule contains: Gabapentin 400 mg, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Gabapentin or to any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in people with severe kidney problems, unless strictly necessary and under the supervision of a physician.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of depression or mood disorders, as well as in those with kidney problems. It is essential to monitor patients undergoing treatment for signs of depression, suicidal thoughts, or changes in behavior. In addition, abrupt discontinuation of the medication should be avoided, as it can lead to withdrawal syndrome or an increase in the frequency of seizures.
