Indications
Fluoxetine is indicated in the treatment of major depressive episodes, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety disorders, panic disorder, and bulimia nervosa. Its action is based on the selective inhibition of serotonin reuptake, which helps to improve mood and reduce anxiety in patients. Additionally, it can be used as part of the treatment for premenstrual disorders in women, helping to alleviate symptoms related to these disorders. Fluoxetine has also shown efficacy in the treatment of eating disorders and in cases of depression resistant to other treatments.
Composition
Each capsule contains 20 mg of fluoxetine, as well as excipients that facilitate the formulation and absorption of the medication.
Contraindications
Fluoxetine is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to fluoxetine or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered in combination with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or in patients who have received MAOI treatment in the last two weeks. Likewise, its use is not recommended in patients with a history of manic episodes or those with bleeding disorders.
Precautions
It is important to maintain medical follow-up during fluoxetine treatment, especially in patients with a history of psychiatric disorders, liver problems, or those taking other medications that may interact. Caution is recommended in its use in special populations, such as the elderly and patients with cardiovascular diseases.
