Indications

Fluconazole 150 mg is indicated for the treatment of fungal infections caused by susceptible fungi, including vaginal, oropharyngeal, and esophageal candidiasis. It is also used for the prophylaxis of fungal infections in immunocompromised patients, as well as for the treatment of cryptococcosis, especially in AIDS patients. This medication works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, leading to its death and elimination from the organism.

Composition

Each Fluconazole 150 mg capsule contains: Fluconazole 150 mg, excipients: starch, lactose, magnesium stearate, and gelatin.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to fluconazole, other azoles, or any of the excipients in the formula. Its use should also be avoided in patients with severe liver disease or those who are receiving medications that may interact negatively with fluconazole.

Precautions

Caution is advised in patients with renal insufficiency, as fluconazole elimination may be affected. Likewise, liver function should be assessed before starting treatment and during its use, due to the possibility of hepatotoxicity. In pregnant or breastfeeding women, the risk-benefit ratio should be considered before administering the medication.

Storage

Fluconazole 150 mg should be stored at room temperature, in a dry place and protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
