Indications

Ferroin is indicated in the treatment of iron deficiency in various clinical conditions, including iron-deficiency anemia, which can arise due to different factors such as hemorrhages, inadequate diets, or malabsorption conditions. It is used in patients with increased iron requirements, such as pregnant or lactating women, as well as in those who have suffered significant blood loss. This medication is primarily administered in situations where the oral route is not effective or cannot be used, providing an effective alternative to restore adequate iron levels in the body.

Composition

Each ampoule of Ferroin contains: Iron Dextran 100 mg in 2 ml of injectable solution.

Contraindications

Ferroin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to iron dextran or any component of the formula. It should not be used in cases of non-iron deficiency anemia, hemosiderosis, or hemochromatosis. Likewise, its use is not recommended in patients with severe renal failure or in those with any active infection.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in its use in patients with a history of asthma or allergic reactions, as well as in those being treated with anticoagulant agents. It is important to monitor serum iron levels and other hematological parameters during treatment to avoid iron overload. Administration should be carried out under medical supervision and in controlled conditions to prevent adverse reactions.
