Indications
Fenofibrate is used in the treatment of dyslipidemia, specifically in patients with hypertriglyceridemia and mixed dyslipidemia. This medication is indicated for the reduction of total cholesterol and LDL (low-density lipoprotein) levels, as well as for the reduction of triglyceride levels in the blood. Its use is recommended in combination with an appropriate diet and physical exercise to improve the therapeutic response. Additionally, fenofibrate may be prescribed to prevent cardiovascular complications in patients with risk factors.
Composition
Each capsule contains 160 mg of fenofibrate, as well as excipients necessary for the capsule formulation. For more details on excipients, consult the product leaflet.
Contraindications
The use of fenofibrate is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fenofibrate or any component of the formulation. It should not be used in cases of severe renal failure, active liver disease, or in patients with a history of biliary disease. Furthermore, it is contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women without proper medical supervision.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering fenofibrate to patients with moderate renal impairment, as dose adjustment may be necessary. It is important to periodically monitor liver and kidney function tests during treatment. Likewise, it is recommended to evaluate the lipid profile before and during treatment. Patients should be informed about the possibility of adverse effects and the importance of reporting any unusual symptoms to the doctor.
