Indications
Phenazopyridine is indicated for the symptomatic relief of dysuria, urinary urgency, and urinary frequency in conditions such as cystitis, urethritis, and other urinary tract infections. This medication acts as a local analgesic in the urinary tract, providing a calming effect on the mucosa and reducing the discomfort associated with these conditions. It is important to mention that phenazopyridine does not treat the cause of the infection, so it is recommended to use it in conjunction with appropriate antibiotic treatment when necessary.
Composition
Each tablet contains: Phenazopyridine 100 mg.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to phenazopyridine or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered to patients with severe renal insufficiency, as well as those with severe liver diseases. Likewise, its use is not recommended during pregnancy and lactation, unless indicated by a physician.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with kidney or liver diseases, as well as in those receiving other medications that may affect kidney function. It is important to avoid the prolonged use of phenazopyridine, as it may mask symptoms of more serious conditions. If the urine turns an orange color, this is a known side effect and should not be a cause for alarm, although it is advisable to consult a doctor if other unusual symptoms appear.
