Indications
Estavam is indicated for the treatment of severe infections caused by Gram-positive bacteria, particularly in cases of resistance to other antibiotics. It is effective in the treatment of respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, endocarditis, osteomyelitis, as well as central nervous system infections. Vancomycin is frequently used in patients with penicillin allergy or in those with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections. This medication can also be used for infection prophylaxis in immunocompromised patients.
Composition
Each vial of Estavam contains 500 mg of vancomycin in the form of vancomycin hydrochloride, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
Estavam is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to vancomycin or any of the formulation components. It should not be administered to patients with severe renal insufficiency without appropriate dose adjustment.
Precautions
Caution is recommended when using Estavam in patients with a history of hearing problems, as vancomycin can cause ototoxicity. Furthermore, renal function should be monitored in patients receiving prolonged treatment. It is important to avoid rapid intravenous administration, as it can cause an adverse reaction known as "red man syndrome."
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C, protected from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
