Indications
Spironolactone is indicated in the treatment of arterial hypertension, as well as in the prevention of fluid retention in patients with congestive heart failure. This medication acts as a potassium-sparing diuretic, promoting the elimination of sodium and water while preserving potassium in the body. It is also used in the treatment of primary and secondary hyperaldosteronism, as well as in some edema conditions.
Composition
Each 25 mg spironolactone tablet contains:
Spironolactone: 25 mg
Excipients: Lactose, starch, talc, magnesium stearate, among others.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to spironolactone or to any of the excipients in the formula, as well as in those with acute renal failure, anuria, hyperkalemia, and Addison's disease. Caution should also be exercised in patients with severe liver diseases.
Precautions
Caution is recommended when administering spironolactone to patients with compromised renal function, electrolyte imbalances, or who are receiving other diuretics. It is advisable to monitor serum potassium levels during treatment, as well as renal function. It should be used under strict medical supervision during pregnancy and lactation.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C, in a dry place and out of the reach of children. Avoid exposure to direct light and humidity.
