Indications
Esomeprazole is indicated for the treatment of diseases related to excessive acid production in the stomach. It is used in the therapy of gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux esophagitis. Additionally, it is indicated for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotics, to prevent ulcer recurrence. Its use is effective in reducing symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, and epigastric pain, providing relief in conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It can also be used in the treatment of erosive gastritis and in the prophylaxis of gastric ulcers in patients requiring NSAID treatment.
Composition
Each tablet contains: Esomeprazole (40 mg), excipients q.s.
Contraindications
Esomeprazole is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, to other proton pump inhibitors, or to any of the excipients in the formula. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to this drug.
Precautions
Precautions should be taken in patients with severe liver diseases, as well as in those with vitamin B12 deficiency, as this medication may interfere with the absorption of said vitamin. Furthermore, it is important to consider the possibility of interactions with other medications, so it is recommended to inform the doctor about all drugs the patient is taking. In case of gastritis or ulcer symptoms, a medical evaluation is advised to rule out malignancy before starting treatment.
