Indications
Esomeprazole is indicated for the treatment of various conditions related to excessive gastric acid production. It is used in the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing symptoms such as heartburn and regurgitation. It is also effective in the eradication of Helicobacter pylori when used in combination with antibiotics, as well as in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers. Additionally, it is prescribed for the prevention of ulcers associated with the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in at-risk patients.
Composition
Each Esomeprazole tablet contains 40 mg of the active ingredient esomeprazole, as well as excipients necessary for the product's formulation.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, other proton pump inhibitors, or any of the excipients in the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of severe liver problems.
Precautions
Medical follow-up is recommended for patients presenting symptoms of peptic ulcers, as treatment with esomeprazole can mask symptoms of more serious illnesses. Likewise, the risk of vitamin B12 deficiency should be considered in prolonged treatments. In case of persistent diarrhea, a doctor should be consulted.
