Indications
Doxycycline is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and certain tick-borne diseases such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme disease. It is also effective in the treatment of severe acne and some gastrointestinal infections. This antibiotic belongs to the tetracycline class and works by inhibiting protein synthesis in bacteria, which helps to combat the infection.
Composition
Each tablet contains 100 mg of doxycycline (as doxycycline monohydrate) as the active ingredient, as well as excipients that facilitate the formulation of the medicine.
Contraindications
Doxycycline is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to doxycycline or other tetracyclines. Its use is also contraindicated in pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as in children under 8 years of age, due to the risk of tooth discoloration and bone development impairment.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of liver or kidney disease, as well as in those receiving anticoagulants. It is important to avoid prolonged sun exposure, as doxycycline can increase sensitivity to sunlight. Medical monitoring is recommended during treatment to assess efficacy and detect possible adverse effects.
Storage
The medicine should be stored in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C, out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
