Indications
Comvufen is indicated for the treatment of seizures, including complex partial epilepsies and generalized tonic-clonic seizures. It is also used for the prophylaxis of seizures in patients with traumatic brain injury and in the prevention of ventricular cardiac arrhythmias. Its use must be supervised by a qualified healthcare professional, who will assess the need for treatment and adjust the dose according to the individual characteristics of the patient.
Composition
Each ampoule of Comvufen contains: 250 mg of Phenytoin Sodium as the active ingredient, in addition to excipients necessary for its formulation.
Contraindications
Comvufen is contraindicated in patients who are hypersensitive to phenytoin or any of the excipients in the formulation. It should not be administered during pregnancy and lactation unless absolutely necessary and under strict medical supervision. Likewise, its use should be avoided in patients with a history of liver disease or porphyria.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of depression, heart disease, and those receiving treatment with other anticonvulsants. Regular monitoring of plasma phenytoin levels is important to prevent toxicity. The use of Comvufen may interfere with the effectiveness of other medications, so the doctor should be informed about any other ongoing treatment.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Protect from light and keep out of reach of children.
