Indications
Chloramphenicol ophthalmic solution is indicated for the treatment of ocular infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to chloramphenicol. This medication is used in cases of bacterial conjunctivitis, blepharitis, and other superficial eye infections. It is effective in treating infections caused by gram-positive and gram-negative organisms, as well as some anaerobes. It should be used under appropriate medical supervision to ensure its correct application and effectiveness in the treatment of eye infections.
Composition
Each milliliter of Chloramphenicol ophthalmic solution contains 0.5 g of chloramphenicol, along with excipients necessary for its proper formulation and stability.
Contraindications
Chloramphenicol ophthalmic solution is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to chloramphenicol or any of the components of the formula. It should not be administered to patients with a history of serious adverse reactions to this drug. It is also contraindicated in untreated viral or fungal infections, as well as in deep corneal lesions.
Precautions
Chloramphenicol ophthalmic solution should be used with caution in patients with hematological diseases or a history of bone marrow dysfunction, as chloramphenicol can cause adverse effects on the bone marrow. In case of pregnancy or breastfeeding, a doctor should be consulted before using this medication. Likewise, it is important to avoid contact of the dropper with the eye or any surface to prevent contamination.
Storage
Store at room temperature, in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Once opened, the product should be used within a specific period indicated by the manufacturer and should not be used after the expiration date. Keep out of reach of children.
