Indications

Citalopram is indicated for the treatment of major depressive episodes, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and panic disorder. Its action is based on the selective inhibition of serotonin reuptake, which helps improve mood and reduce anxiety in patients. This medication can be beneficial for those experiencing symptoms such as persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities, sleep disturbances, fatigue, and concentration problems.

Composition

Each Citalopram tablet contains 20 mg of the active substance citalopram, as well as excipients such as lactose, starch, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation of the medication.

Contraindications

Citalopram is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to citalopram or any of the excipients. It is also contraindicated in patients who are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or who have received treatment with MAOIs in the last two weeks, due to the risk of serious adverse reactions.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering citalopram to patients with a history of seizure disorders, liver or kidney disorders, as well as those with a history of mania or hypomania. It is important to monitor patients for the possible emergence of suicidal symptoms, especially at the beginning of treatment and during dose changes.

Storage

Store the medication in its original packaging, in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children. The storage temperature should not exceed 30 °C.
