Indications
Ceftriaxone is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to this antibiotic. It is used in lower respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia, urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as in bacterial meningitis. It can also be used in surgical prophylaxis to prevent postoperative infections in high-risk procedures.
Composition
Each vial contains ceftriaxone sodium equivalent to 1 g of ceftriaxone. Excipients include: sodium chloride, water for injection.
Contraindications
Ceftriaxone is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or to any of the components of the formula. Its use is not recommended in neonates who require calcium treatment due to the possibility of precipitate formation in the circulatory system.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of allergies to other antibiotics, as well as in those with renal or hepatic impairment. Intravenous administration should be performed slowly to avoid adverse reactions. It is important to monitor kidney function in patients treated for prolonged periods.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15 and 30 °C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
