Indications

Cefotaxime is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to this antibiotic, particularly respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as septicemia. It is also used in patients with febrile neutropenia and for infection prophylaxis in surgical procedures. It is effective against a variety of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, allowing its use in clinical conditions where a polymicrobial infection is suspected.

Composition

Each Cefotaxima Im ampoule contains 500 mg of cefotaxime in sodium form. Excipients are: water for injection, and other excipients that promote product stability.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefotaxime, other cephalosporin antibiotics, or any of the formula's components. It is also contraindicated in cases of severe renal insufficiency without proper dose modification.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised when administering cefotaxime to patients with a history of antibiotic allergies, especially to penicillins. Monitoring is recommended in patients with renal insufficiency, as dose adjustment may be necessary. Furthermore, care should be taken with prolonged use of the medication, as it may cause superinfections by fungi or resistant bacteria.

Storage

Store the product at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius. Protect from light and keep out of reach of children. Do not use the medication after the expiry date indicated on the packaging.
