Indications
Cefepime is indicated for the treatment of severe bacterial infections in adults and children. It is effective in the management of respiratory tract infections, complicated skin and soft tissue infections, intra-abdominal infections, sepsis, and community-acquired pneumonia. Additionally, it is used in cases of complicated urinary tract infections and in patients with febrile neutropenia. Cefepime acts against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including strains resistant to other antibiotics.
Composition
Each vial contains: Cefepime (as cefepime hydrochloride) 1 g, excipients: hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, and water for injection.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefepime or any other component of the formula. Its use should also be avoided in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other cephalosporins or penicillins.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of kidney disease, as dosage may require adjustment. Likewise, renal function monitoring is recommended in patients treated with cefepime for prolonged periods. The possibility of cross-reactions has been reported in patients allergic to penicillins. It is important to perform adequate medical follow-up in case of diarrhea, as it may be a sign of antibiotic-associated colitis.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature between 15 and 30 °C. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the packaging.
