Indications

Cephalothin is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections. It is indicated in the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, such as skin and soft tissue infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, and septicemia. It is also used in surgical prophylaxis to prevent postoperative infections in clean and contaminated surgical procedures. Its use should be based on the susceptibility of the identified pathogen and the results of the antibiogram.

Composition

Each vial contains cephalothin 1 g, excipients not specified.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or to any component of the formula. Its use is not recommended in patients with a history of severe anaphylactic reactions to penicillins, due to the possibility of cross-reactions.

Precautions

Caution should be exercised in patients with renal insufficiency, as dosage may require adjustments. In addition, renal function monitoring is recommended during treatment. In patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis, the use of cephalothin should be carefully evaluated.

Storage

This medication should be stored at room temperature, in a cool, dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
