Indications
Cephalexin is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections that are susceptible to its action. It is used in the treatment of respiratory tract infections, ear infections, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as urinary tract infections. It can also be used in the treatment of bone and joint infections, as well as for the prophylaxis of infections in surgical procedures in certain cases. It is important that the use of cephalexin is based on the susceptibility of the microorganism causing the infection and that it is used under the supervision of a physician.
Composition
Each tablet contains 500 mg of cephalexin, as well as excipients necessary for the formulation of the medication.
Contraindications
Cephalexin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins. It should also be avoided in those with a history of severe allergic reactions to any beta-lactam antibiotic. Its use in patients with severe renal impairment requires special attention, and it should not be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women without adequate evaluation by a physician.
Precautions
Caution is advised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis. Monitoring of renal function is important in patients receiving prolonged treatment. In addition, the possibility of cross-allergic reactions should be considered in patients with a history of penicillin allergy. It is essential to inform the physician about any other medication the patient is taking to avoid interactions.
