Indications
Bicalutamide is indicated as hormone therapy in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. It acts as an androgen receptor antagonist, inhibiting the action of testosterone and other androgens in prostate tissue. It is generally used in combination with other treatments, such as medical or surgical castration, to improve treatment efficacy and slow disease progression. It can also be used for the treatment of hormonal conditions in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Composition
Each tablet contains 50 mg of Bicalutamide as the active ingredient. Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, starch, talc, magnesium stearate.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Bicalutamide or any of the excipients in the formulation. Its use is not recommended in women and children, as well as in patients with severe liver diseases. Its use must be carefully evaluated in patients with a history of liver disease.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Bicalutamide in patients with a history of mild to moderate liver disease, as well as in those receiving other medications that may affect liver metabolism. It is recommended to monitor transaminase levels in these patients. In addition, the risk of adverse effects such as gynecomastia, which can affect the patient's quality of life, should be considered.
