Indications

Benzonatate is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of cough, providing a local anesthetic effect on the respiratory tract. It is useful in cases of non-productive cough, where the aim is to relieve irritation of the throat and respiratory tract. It may also be considered in situations of cough associated with respiratory infections, as well as in conditions that cause chronic cough. This medication acts by inhibiting the cough reflex at a peripheral level, allowing for an improvement in the patient's quality of life by reducing the frequency of this symptom.

Composition

Each Benzonatate capsule contains 100 mg of benzonatate as the active ingredient. Excipients include gelatin, glycerin, and other inactive components that facilitate the formulation and absorption of the medication.

Contraindications

This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to benzonatate or any component of the formula. It should not be administered to patients with a history of allergic reactions to other antitussives or related medications. Additionally, it should be avoided in children under 10 years of age due to the risk of serious adverse effects.

Precautions

Caution is recommended in patients with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or those with severe respiratory problems. It should be used with care in patients with heart disease, as cough can be a symptom of underlying conditions. The intake of this medication should be exclusively under medical prescription, monitoring for any signs of adverse reaction.

Storage

Store the medication in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid exposure to direct light and do not use the medication after the expiry date indicated on the package.
