Indications
Mucocef is used in the treatment of bacterial infections affecting the respiratory tract, as well as in the management of respiratory disorders involving excessive mucus production. Cephalexin is an antibiotic of the cephalosporin group that acts against various gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, while bromhexine is a mucolytic that facilitates mucus elimination, improving breathing and reducing bronchial congestion. This medication is indicated in cases of bronchitis, pneumonia, and other respiratory infections where both antibiotic treatment and mucolytic support are required.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains: 250 mg of cephalexin and 4 mg of bromhexine.
Contraindications
The use of Mucocef is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cephalexin, bromhexine, or any other component of the formulation. It is not recommended for patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to other beta-lactam antibiotics. Furthermore, its use should be avoided in patients with severe renal failure without adequate medical supervision.
Precautions
It should be used with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, liver or kidney disorders. In addition, patients on prolonged treatment should be monitored, as there may be a risk of superinfection by non-susceptible microorganisms. It is important to evaluate the risk-benefit ratio in patients with asthma or a history of allergies.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Protect from light and keep out of reach of children. Once opened, the suspension should be used within a certain period, according to the manufacturer's instructions.
