Indications
Merrem (Meropenem) is indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections, including complicated intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, lower respiratory tract infections, and bacterial meningitis. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including those that produce beta-lactamase. Merrem administration should be considered in patients with infections caused by susceptible microorganisms, based on the antibiogram profile and the patient's clinical conditions. It is important to make an accurate diagnosis and determine the sensitivity of the pathogens to ensure treatment effectiveness.
Composition
Each vial of Merrem contains 1g of meropenem as the active ingredient. Excipients include: citric acid, sodium citrate, and water for injection. The formulation is designed for intravenous administration.
Contraindications
Merrem is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to meropenem, other carbapenems, or any of the excipients in the formulation. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics, as there is a risk of cross-reactions.
Precautions
Renal function monitoring is recommended during Merrem treatment, especially in patients with pre-existing renal impairment. Special care should be taken when administering the drug to patients with a history of seizures, as an increased incidence of seizure events has been observed at high doses. Patients should also be monitored for possible adverse reactions, which may include allergic reactions, gastrointestinal disorders, and hematological abnormalities.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Protect from light. Do not use after the expiry date indicated on the package.
