Indications
Keflex (Cefalexin) is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections sensitive to cephalexin, such as upper respiratory tract infections (like pharyngitis and tonsillitis), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as bone and joint infections. It is also used in the treatment of osteoarticular infections and in the prophylaxis of postoperative infections. It is important that the use of this antibiotic is based on the identification of the bacteria responsible for the infection, as well as its sensitivity to cephalexin.
Composition
Each 5 ml of suspension contains:
- Cefalexin 250 mg
- Excipients: glucose syrup, xanthan gum, strawberry flavor, purified water.
Contraindications
Keflex is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to cephalexin, other beta-lactam antibiotics, or any of the formulation components. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of pseudomembranous colitis or inflammatory bowel disease.
Precautions
Special care should be taken in patients with renal insufficiency, as dose adjustment may be necessary. Likewise, it is recommended to evaluate renal function in elderly patients or those with pre-existing medical conditions. During treatment, the appearance of adverse reactions, as well as signs of superinfection, should be monitored. In case of severe diarrhea, treatment should be discontinued and a doctor consulted.
Storage
Store at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
