Indications
Fluatron (fluconazole) is indicated for the treatment of systemic and superficial fungal infections. It is used in the management of oral and esophageal candidiasis, as well as for the prevention of fungal infections in immunocompromised patients. Additionally, it is indicated for the treatment of cryptococcal meningitis in HIV/AIDS patients and for the treatment of dermatophyte infections and other cutaneous mycoses. This medication works by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, which results in its death or inhibition of growth.
Composition
Each Fluatron capsule contains 150 mg of fluconazole as the active ingredient. Excipients include starch, gelatin, titanium dioxide, and other inert compounds that allow for capsule formulation.
Contraindications
Fluatron is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to fluconazole or any of the excipients in the formula. Caution should also be exercised in patients with severe liver disease, as well as those receiving treatment with other medications that may interact with fluconazole.
Precautions
Careful monitoring is recommended in patients with a history of liver disease, renal insufficiency, and those undergoing treatment with other antifungals or medications that affect hepatic metabolism. It is essential to avoid alcohol consumption during treatment, as it may increase the risk of adverse effects.
