Indications
Flagyl (Metronidazole) is indicated in the treatment of infections caused by susceptible microorganisms. It is commonly used for the treatment of:
- Anaerobic bacterial infections
- Gastrointestinal tract infections, including intestinal amebiasis and giardiasis
- Vaginal infections by Trichomonas vaginalis
- Dental infections, such as periodontitis
- Infections in immunocompromised patients
Metronidazole acts by inhibiting nucleic acid synthesis in microorganisms, resulting in their death. It is important to make an adequate diagnosis and follow the healthcare professional's instructions to ensure effective treatment.
Composition
Each Flagyl tablet contains 500 mg of metronidazole as the active ingredient. It also contains excipients that facilitate its formulation and absorption.
Contraindications
Flagyl is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to metronidazole or to any of the excipients in the formulation. It should also be avoided in patients with pre-existing neurological diseases, as well as in those who are being treated with disulfiram.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised when administering Flagyl to patients with severe liver disease, as drug elimination may be affected. Likewise, pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to consult a doctor before starting treatment.
Storage
Store in its original packaging, at a temperature not exceeding 30°C and protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
