Indications
Ectaprim is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and certain types of gastrointestinal infections. It is effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and is commonly used for the management of Pneumocystis jirovecii infections in immunocompromised patients. It can also be used in the treatment of acute otitis media, acute and exacerbated chronic bronchitis, as well as skin and soft tissue infections.
Composition
Each 5 ml of Ectaprim contains 40 mg of trimethoprim and 200 mg of sulfamethoxazole. Additionally, it contains excipients that provide the appropriate properties for its formulation.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the components of the formula or to other sulfonamides. It should not be administered to patients with severe renal insufficiency, due to the risk of accumulation of the active components. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, unless expressly indicated by a medical professional.
Precautions
Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of hepatic, renal, or hematological disease. During treatment, it is important to monitor renal function, as well as the appearance of adverse reactions. Prolonged use of the medication without medical supervision is not recommended, due to the risk of developing bacterial resistance and severe adverse effects.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place, protected from light and out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the package.
