Indications
Cefuracet is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by microorganisms susceptible to cefuroxime. These infections may include, but are not limited to, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media. It is also used in the treatment of urinary tract infections and some forms of bacterial meningitis. Cefuroxime acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, resulting in bacterial death.
Composition
Each 5 ml of Cefuracet suspension contains: Cefuroxime (as cefuroxime axetil) 250 mg. Excipients: Sorbitol, xanthan gum, flavoring, purified water, among others.
Contraindications
This medication is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefuroxime, to other cephalosporin antibiotics, or to any of the formulation components. It should not be administered to patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to penicillins, due to the potential for cross-reactivity.
Precautions
Caution is recommended in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis. It is important to monitor renal function in patients with renal insufficiency, as drug elimination may be affected. During treatment, the possibility of allergic reactions should be considered, and appropriate patient follow-up should be carried out.
Storage
Store at a temperature not exceeding 30 °C. Protect from light and moisture. Once the suspension is opened, use within a specific period of time according to the manufacturer's instructions. Keep out of reach of children.
