It is also used for the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with established coronary heart disease or in those at high risk of cardiovascular disease, including diabetes mellitus and other risk factors.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAtorvastatin acts by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which leads to a decrease in cholesterol synthesis in the liver, thereby increasing LDL uptake in circulation and reducing plasma levels of LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch2\u003eComposition\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach tablet contains 40 mg of atorvastatin as atorvastatin calcium.
